Research cooperation 1: Suicide attempts among patients diagnosed with disseminated sclerosis

Objectives

The objectives of the project are

  • to examine if patients with disseminated sclerosis (DS) in the former county of Funen are at increased risk of attempting suicide and whether there is a difference in the frequency of attempted suicides among the DS-patients that receive interferon treatment in comparison with patients who do not receive said treatment.
  • to provided that DS-patients in the former county of Funen are at increased risk of attempting suicide, to examine if this tendency is evident in the total Danish population of DS-patients.

Method

  • via coordination of the Register for Sclerosis and the Register for Suicide Attempts to calculate the frequency of attempted suicides among the Funen DS-patients. Survival analysis to be applied to the calculation of Standard Mortality ratios.
  • likewise in coordination of the Register for Sclerosis and the National Patient Registry.

The project is carried out in cooperation with the Register for Sclerosis and the Register for Sclerosis treatment.
