Self-harm and social media: a systematic review

Self-harm and social media: a systematic review

Background

The social media have not been subject to the same restrictions as traditional media, and this opens the door for possible inappropriate communication, which i.a. occurs in open and closed groups, whose starting point is e.g. is self-harming behavior or eating disorders.

Purpose

The purpose of the study is, among other things, to examine the diversity of self-harming visual material, examine user activity (likes, comments, sharing), gender distribution, reported indicators and outcomes.

Method

We will review the existing literature on self-injurious behavior and social media and conduct a meta-analysis. Selection of studies and data extraction will be carried out by two researchers independently of each other.
