Attempted suicide and multiple sclerosis

Association between attempted suicide and multiple sclerosis, a meta-analysis

Introduction

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune inflammatory demyelinating disorder, that affects the patient physically, mentally, and cognitive.

Previously published studies show, that MS is associated with a higher risk of suicidal ideation and a higher risk of suicides.

Objective

The objective of this study is to examine the association between multiple sclerosis and attempted suicide – on the hypothesis that multiple sclerosis increases the risk of attempted suicides.

Methods

Meta-analysis. This study will review the existing literature on the association between attempted suicide and MS with emphasis on level of evidence. Results will be included in a meta-analysis of an estimate of the incidence of attempted suicide among Persons with MS (PwMS).

Search and selection of the published studies to be included in the meta-analysis will be conducted by two researchers.
