Railway suicides

Railway suicides – reactions of the engine driver and the conductor and also characteristics of the persons who commit railway suicide

Background

In recent years, railway suicides have received much attention. On that background, DSB (The Danish State-owned Railway Company) and the Centre for Suicide Research have initiated a research project.

Purpose

The purpose of the project is:

• to prevent suicidal behaviour among citizens
• to examine the consequences for the personnel involved in a railway suicide
• to examine the consequences for the engine driver who have run over someone

Method

A Triangular research method:

• Register-based research
• Questionnaire-survey
• interview study

Status

Completed with Danish report and supplementary booklet.
