Suicide in the media – guidelines, publicity, and influence

Background

In 2008, WHO and IASP published Preventing suicide: a resource for media professionals, which is a guideline for sound reporting on completed and attempted suicides. An updated guideline has been published in June 2017.

Purpose

The purpose of the project is to examine if current coverage comply with the recommended guidelines and if publicity create increased activities on the Centre’s website.

Method

Analysis of media publicity on suicide, attempted suicide and suicidal behaviour.

Status

Completed with Danish article Danske avisers omtale af selvmord i 2018, published in Tidsskriftet Suicidologi, 3/2021: Efferlatte og pårørende.
